Sustainability – It is more than just a goal for us
It’s what drives our daily work. We have different initiatives, we actively contribute to a more responsible and future-ready industry.
Sustainability at VIAM
Success stories from around the world
Solar-powered production: our own energy for sustainable car floor mats and carpets
At our production sites in Mexico, Germany and China, we utilize modern photovoltaic systems to ensure sustainable energy supply. A significant portion of the electricity generated is used directly on-site, allowing us to actively reduce our CO₂ footprint and contribute to a cleaner, more responsible manufacturing process.
Energy-efficient carpet dyeing: lower temperatures, lower consumption
In our carpet dyeing process, we implement lower temperatures settings to achieve significant energy savings. This approach allows us to substantially reduce energy consumption while maintaining our high standards of quality and color intensity.
From waste to value: recycling & circular economy
In close collaboration with our sister company, Freudenberg Performance Materials, we are committed to developing innovative solutions for recycling and reusing our products. Our mission: reduce waste, promote a circular economy and use resources more efficiently and consciously.
From old to new floor mat
Our customer has introduced a resource circulation policy for floor mats, aiming to recycle used mats from scrapped vehicles into new ones. The first step in this process is to take scrap material from the cutting stage, convert it back into carpet thread, and use it to produce new floor mats. This approach reduces waste and promotes a true circular economy.

Honey made by VIAM
Our honey is crafted by our tiniest, most dedicated workers – our bees!
With care and teamwork, they help us bring a little sweetness from our own hives straight on our bread.
At our company site in Meuselwitz – Germany, we proudly host our very own bee colonies. Our bees have found a welcoming home among the flowers and trees, where they can gather nectar and pollen throughout the seasons. In fact, our bees feed almost exclusively on the blossoms and trees growing on our own company grounds. This natural environment provides them with a rich and varied diet, supporting their health and productivity.
This close connection to nature allows us to produce around 500 jars of honey per year, all harvested with care and respect for the wellbeing of our bees.
Together with a dedicated local beekeeper, who not only maintains the hives but also understands the bees’ behavior and needs, we ensure that our colonies thrive. His expertise allows him to recognize what the bees are missing and respond with care — creating a safe and balanced habitat for our smallest team members.
As a special reward for their efforts, our bees produce delicious, sweet honey that we are delighted to share with our staff, customers and suppliers. Enjoying our own honey is a wonderful reminder of the value of working together with nature and the positive impact we can have on our environment.
Together for a better future
Our global initiative to create an impact through non-profit activities made by our employees.
Our team engages in self-organized community projects, which reflect our commitment to social and environmental responsibility. These include local street-cleaning campaigns, voluntary blood donations and the installation of water towers to provide clean drinking water.
Furthermore, since 2015 Freudenberg and all its employees has been committed to making a positive impact through its e² initiative, which stands for Education and Environment. This global program encourages employees to actively engage in non-profit activities that support educational opportunities and environmental protection.
Here two examples of our e² activities:
Tree planting
In celebration of its 170th anniversary the Freudenberg Group invited its global teams to take part in a tree planting initiative worldwide. Our group contributed across multiple regions. Together with our colleagues worldwide, we planted approximately 20,000 trees.
Children’s welfare facilities
We actively collaborate with various non-profit organizations to create experiences and safe spaces for children. Together we help install playgrounds, organize educational company visits for young children and lead forest-based activities that connect children with nature.
Fundraising initiative
Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet consectetur adipiscing elit Ut et massa mi. Aliquam in hendrerit.
Since 2002 our team in Tennessee has been deeply committed to supporting local first responders and giving back to the community through a heartfelt initiative: the annual 9/11 fundraiser. More than just a donation drive, this event reflects our values of unity, appreciation and social responsibility.
What began as a small idea within the maintenance department – collecting pennies with the goal of raising $911 – this quickly grew into a company-wide movement. The fundraiser has already contributed approximately $680,000 to local organizations over the years.
How does it work?
Following the initial success, a team challenge was introduced: all departments – from white over to blue collar – are paired to form teams that organize creative fundraising activities throughout the year – such as bake sales, auctions, and games. Teams that reach their fundraising target receive a small reward as a token of appreciation.
